131 voted against and 185 voted for the legislation.
I received comments in a previous article that the implementation of the Emergency Act was illegal unless it had been debated and passed by vote in Parliament. That assumption seems to be incorrect.
The Government can declare the Act and it takes effect immediately.
Then a debate must take place in the Parliament.
The debate and vote took place on Monday and the Emergency Act came into effect. The Act must be ratified by the Senate, which is just a rubber stamp by these non-elected Senators.
The Government says the Emergency Act will be in place for a target number of 30 days or less. What that means is vague but means until they feel, with advice from the Police, until Ottawa and all Border Crossing protests are no longer a threat to Commerce and the well being of the Citizens.
